technikSCHULE

The Technical State Museum of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (TLM) is a recognized extracurricular place of learning. With our offers, we want to counteract the creeping negative educational spiral of the natural and technical sciences. Teaching and learning in the so-called MINT subjects (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, technology) are to be promoted by our museum filter in the school and extracurricular area in order to familiarize pupils with the world of MINT topics as early as possible, to arouse enthusiasm and to offer guidance in choosing a career.

Supported by our explorative exhibition concept, in the form of the interactive permanent exhibition and target group-oriented educational modules (workshops), we bring together partners from culture, business, industry and education to ensure that technical and scientific phenomena are conveyed in a practical way. As a recognized extracurricular educational venue, our educational and mediation work is aimed specifically at all class levels (elementary school, secondary levels I & II), including pre-vocational schools and university seminars.

We are supported in the implementation of our workshops by the Schwerin State Education Authority in the form of a seconded teacher at the extracurricular learning location.

Workshops

All workshops are based on the curricula of the respective grade levels and school types in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

Water - where does it come from, why do we need it, where does it go?

Science, geography, biology, handicrafts | 1st to 6th grade

Water is a fascinating element that influences and impresses us in many different ways. It covers more than 70 percent of the earth's surface and is a vital element for all forms of life. We are also made up of at least 50% water! But where does water come from? What can we use water for? What dangers does it pose? Where does it go when we shower or bathe? We want to approach the topic of water in an experimental way and learn a lot about this fascinating element. Will we be able to clean dirty water with simple means? We will then build a small water purification system together.

Energy generation - Where does our energy actually come from?

Physics, geography, biology, history | 5th to 12th grade

Every day we use electricity, enjoy hot water from the tap or take pleasure in warm heating. But where does the energy actually come from? How was energy used in the past and how do we use it today? The sun, wind and water can supply us with an infinite amount of energy. That sounds very promising and we can no longer imagine life without it, but do renewable energies also have disadvantages? We want to take an in-depth look at the topic of energy generation and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of all energy sources with a view to the current situation in Germany. Afterwards, we will use the museum workshop to build a model to illustrate the use of energy.
