Opening "Cycling Sport in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania"
We are delighted to invite you to the opening of the second exhibition section "Cycling Sport in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania" of the permanent exhibition project "ERDE – Auf zwei Rädern" (EARTH – On Two Wheels).
In January 2023, the phanTECHNIKUM began a unique journey through the history of mobility in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania with the partial opening of the new permanent exhibition "ERDE – Auf zwei Rädern". At its heart lies the technical and cultural history of the bicycle and cycling from 1817 to the present day.
Since then, the team at the Technical Museum of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, together with numerous partners, has been working with great dedication to complete this permanent exhibition step by step. The second exhibition area now opening focuses on the bicycle from the perspective of cycling sport in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Visitors can look forward to a richly varied presentation of cycle ball, artistic cycling and road racing, as well as the time-honoured tradition of "Tonnenabschlagen" (barrel-smashing) — all brought vividly and evocatively to life.
The opening is also a special opportunity to celebrate, together with all our visitors, the support of the Ostdeutsche Sparkassenstiftung and Sparkasse Mecklenburg-Nordwest. Following the forthcoming "Cycling Sport in MV" extension, the third and final exhibition section, "Fahrradies" (Bicycle Paradise), will open in 2027. Thanks to the generous support of our funding partners, the exhibition area "ERDE – Auf zwei Rädern" can be fully realised. This final section will focus on the future of cycling: at its core will be an immersive cycling simulation, with scenarios exploring themes such as urban development, health, infrastructure and mobility.
We would be delighted to celebrate these important milestones for our ERDE permanent exhibition together with you!
