Open-Air Cinema 2026 – A Retrospective
Blessed with the very best summer weather, the Technisches Landesmuseum Mecklenburg-Vorpommern hosted a truly special open-air cinema day at the phanTECHNIKUM on Friday, 19 June 2026. Offering the perfect combination of a cosy open-air children's cinema in the afternoon and a cult drive-in cinema in the evening, the museum courtyard was transformed into a vibrant open-air stage.
From 15:00, the youngest guests were already on the edge of their seats, rooting for the little snail Turbo and his big racing dream. As dusk began to fall later in the evening, vehicles rolled into the museum courtyard for the ultimate highlight: the drive-in cinema featuring the cult classic Ghostbusters. Whether enjoying it in true vintage style straight from their own cars or from the comfortable picnic areas, the audience was absolutely thrilled by the mix of 1980s nostalgia, ghost hunting, and quirky humour. Our museum café, "phanPRANDIUM", was fully prepared and delighted cinema-goers throughout the day with refreshing drinks and delicious snacks that brought a real cinema feel to the event. The museum team would like to thank all guests for their visit and the fantastic atmosphere!
Sincere thanks go to the Stiftung der Sparkasse Mecklenburg-Nordwest, whose generous funding made the children's cinema possible for all young film enthusiasts up to the age of 18. We would also like to thank the Hochschule Wismar university for once again providing the comfortable deck chairs, which contributed significantly to the relaxed summer vibe.
