Unusual museum objects in focus
“From nuclear suits to 9/11 lighters” is the title of an article in the art and culture magazine musermeku. It focuses on the strangest or most bizarre exhibits in German museums. Entries were received from most German states and Switzerland. Part 3 was about interesting fashion and unusual objects.
In cooperation with the Technical State Museum of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the culture magazine musermeku presents an unusual object: Swimming shoes with which you can - actually! - can walk on water. This bizarre means of transportation was developed in 1975 by VEB Wiking in Schwerin for export to the USA. In the GDR itself, the shoes were banned - out of concern that they could be used to escape.
After disappearing for decades, the swimming shoes reappeared in 2003 and are now considered a rare curiosity in the history of technology. In part 3 of musermeku's article, you can find out more about this exciting exhibit and many other fascinating objects.
